Team news: Debuts for young trio

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez will hand debuts to a trio of youngsters for Wednesday night's FA Cup third round replay against Birmingham City at St. James' Park.

Defender Stuart Findlay, midfielder Dan Barlaser and winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni will all make their Magpies bows, with Barlaser and El-Mhanni also making their first professional appearances.

Matz Sels will start in goal, with DeAndre Yedlin, Grant Hanley, former Celtic youngster Findlay and Achraf Lazaar making up the back four.

Barlaser starts in the middle on his 20th birthday with Cheick Tiote alongside him, and Matt Ritchie and El-Mhanni out wide.

And Jonjo Shelvey returns from suspension to start just behind Yoan Gouffran, who starts up front.

Republic of Ireland international Rob Elliot is named on the bench for the first time since suffering a cruciate knee ligament injury in March last year, while Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett provide defensive cover.

And Isaac Hayden, Jack Colback, Ayoze Perez and Daryl Murphy complete the list of substitutes for the replay against the Blues.

Newcastle United (4-4-1-1): Matz Sels; DeAndre Yedlin, Grant Hanley, Stuart Findlay, Achraf Lazaar; Matt Ritchie, Dan Barlaser, Cheick Tiote, Yasin Ben El-Mhanni; Jonjo Shelvey; Yoan Gouffran.
