Team news: Debut for Longstaff at Forest

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benítez has made a raft of changes to his side for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie at Nottingham Forest, with Sean Longstaff set to line up for his competitive Magpies debut.

The youngster comes in for his bow in one of seven changes from the team that started Sunday’s defeat to Chelsea, with former forest stopper Karl Darlow and full back Jamie Sterry among the other players to be brought into the side as United aim for a place in the third round.

Sterry, Fabian Schär, Federico Fernández and Ciaran Clark form a back four in front of Darlow, with Christian Atsu, Ki Sung-yueng, Longstaff and Kenedy in midfield.

And Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto will make his first start for the club, providing support for frontman Joselu, who came off the bench to net at the weekend.

Rob Elliot, DeAndre Yedlin, Paul Dummett, Mo Diamé are all named among the substitutes, along with Jacob Murphy, Ayoze Pérez and Salomón Rondón.
