Sterry undergoes successful surgery

Written by Dan King

Young defender Jamie Sterry has undergone a successful groin operation this week.

The Newcastle-born right-back - who made three appearances for the Magpies in all competitions last season, either side of a loan spell with Coventry City - suffered with the injury towards the end of last season and had surgery on Monday.

He is now likely to miss the beginning of pre-season training on July 3rd but should be fully fit for the early stages of United’s 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

Highly-rated Sterry - who made his top-flight debut under Rafa Benítez in the 5-1 win over Tottenham on the final day of the 2015/16 season - signed a new four-year contract at St. James’ Park last August.
