SJP welcomes millionth fan of the season

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Newcastle United drew their one millionth supporter of the season to St. James’ Park on Saturday – with two months of the campaign still to go.

After 21 games in the Sky Bet Championship, EFL Cup and Emirates FA Cup, a total of 1,008,774 fans have flocked through the turnstiles to see the Magpies in action.

United’s average attendance for the season – in all competitions – stands at a remarkable 48,036. Their highest turnout came against Derby County earlier this month, when 52,271 people saw Rafa Benitez’s side prevail 1-0.

Back in October, 49,042 were in the crowd as Newcastle thrashed Preston North End in the EFL Cup – a figure bettered only once at St. James’ Park since the competition began.

United have six games left on home soil this term, starting with the visit of Fulham on Saturday, March 11th.
