Shelvey to feature for second-string at Fulham

Written by Luke Vinton

Jonjo Shelvey will feature for Newcastle United's under-23s at Fulham on Friday night.

The England international, who recently recovered from a thigh injury, has requested to play for United's second string in the 7pm (GMT) kick-off at the Cottagers' Motspur Park training ground.

Ben Dawson's young Magpies are seeking a fourth successive league win. Currently on 28 points in Premier League 2's second tier, United can move into third place with a victory.

Newcastle face a Fulham side who have lost their last three league games, but the West London club recently tasted victory over Reading in the Premier League Cup, defeating the Royals 2-0.

Newcastle enjoyed their previous league fixture over the Cottagers at Whitley Park, with Elias Sørensen netting a hat-trick in United's 5-2 success back in October.
