Senior Cup semi-final set for second-string
Newcastle United Under-23s will face an away trip to North Shields in the Northumberland Senior Cup semi-finals on Thursday, 24th February (kick-off 7.30pm GMT).
Elliott Dickman's side, currently unbeaten in six competitive matches, secured their place in the last four in December after defeating Ashington via penalties in a 2-2 draw against the Colliers at Woodhorn Lane.
Their reward is an away tie against North Shields at the Daren Persson Stadium, who currently sit in third place of Northern League Division One, the ninth tier of English football.
The two sides met at the semi-final stages of the competition in 2017 as the Robins advanced into the Northumberland Senior Cup final after a penalty shoot-out victory over the young Magpies, winning 10-9 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
Newcastle's youngsters have won the trophy a record 38 times, with their most recent cup triumph coming back in 2018 after beating Morpeth Town 3-1 at St. James' Park.
