Scott to referee United's Brighton trip

Written by Tom Easterby

Graham Scott has been confirmed as the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League game at Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Ticket details

This weekend's game on the south coast will be Scott's first top flight outing of the new campaign, with his only previous appointment coming in the Championship where he oversaw Birmingham City's goalless draw at home to Luton Town almost a fortnight ago.

The 53-year-old, a former student at the London School of Economics, joined the National List of officials in 2008 after a decade in the lower reaches of the English football pyramid. He was awarded his first Premier League game in November 2014 and was promoted to the Select Group the following year.

Since then, Scott - a goalkeeper in his youth - has been a regular in the top flight but took charge of just one match involving Newcastle last term. During United's 2-1 defeat at Wolves in October 2021, he booked Magpies defenders Ciaran Clark and Javier Manquillo. His last visit to Tyneside came in December 2020, when he oversaw a 1-1 draw with Fulham.
