Scott to referee Magpies' Molineux clash

The match officials for Newcastle United’s Premier League game at Wolverhampton Wanderers have been confirmed, with Graham Scott set to take charge of Saturday’s fixture (3pm kick-off).

The Magpies head to Molineux still looking for a first win of the season, with Bruno Lage’s improving Wolves seeking to build on their win over Southampton last weekend.

And it has been announced that Scott has been appointed as the lead official for the match, which will be the Oxford-born referee’s fourth outing of the campaign.

Scott began officiating when his own playing career, with non-league Abingdon Town, came to an end because of a back problem in 1997. He rose relatively quickly through the ranks once he became a National League referee in 2006, progressing to the Football League two years later and then the top flight in 2014.

The 52-year-old, who has been a Select Group referee since 2015, has overseen two games in the Premier League so far in 2021/22 – Manchester City’s 5-0 win over Norwich and Brentford’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

There has also been an appointment for the Carabao Cup tie between Chelsea and Aston Villa, in which the Blues prevailed on penalties, with Scott having shown nine yellow cards and no reds in those three outings so far this term.

Last season, Scott refereed two Magpies fixtures – the 2-0 win away at Crystal Palace in November 2020 and the 1-1 draw at home to Fulham the following month.

Richard West and Mark Scholes will assist him on Saturday, with Anthony Taylor acting as fourth official.

And Andre Marriner will be the VAR, with assistance from Matthew Wilkes.
