Saint-Maximin stunner up for Premier League goal of the month

Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin’s winner against Burnley has been nominated for the Budweiser Premier League goal of the month award for April.

The 24-year-old’s stunning solo strike, which saw him pick the ball up in the centre circle before surging towards the Clarets’ box and planting a low shot beyond Nick Pope to seal the win for the Magpies, is one of seven goals in contention for the award.

The Frenchman returned from injury last month to help the Magpies record a four-game unbeaten run, with his memorable effort against Burnley coming after he stepped off the bench to set up Jacob Murphy’s equaliser in the same game at Turf Moor.

Voting for the award opened here at 1pm (BST) on Friday and closes at 6pm (BST) on Monday. The winner will be announced next week.

Nominated alongside Saint-Maximin are Callum Robinson of West Bromwich Albion, West Ham’s Jesse Lingard and Pablo Fornals, Leandro Dendoncker of Wolves, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool, Alexandre Lacazette of Arsenal and Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho.
