Referee revealed for Palace game

Written by Dan King

Stuart Attwell will referee at St. James' Park for the second time this season when Crystal Palace travel to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Warwickshire whistler took charge of last month's 2-1 win against Stoke City, when he showed four yellow cards - three of them to United players, with Ciaran Clark, Isaac Hayden and Mikel Merino picking up cautions.

In total, he has shown 19 yellow cards and one red in seven matches this term; he dismissed West Ham's former Newcastle striker Andy Carroll at the weekend.

Attwell, who turned 35 earlier this month, was the youngest man ever to referee in the Premier League when he took charge of his first top flight game in 2008.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Simon Long and Andy Garratt. Mike Dean will be the fourth official.
