Referee revealed for Monday night

Written by Dan King

Peter Bankes will be the referee when Newcastle entertain Aston Villa on Monday (kick-off 8pm).

The man in the middle from Merseyside was in charge of United's dramatic 4-3 win against Norwich City in September.

He began refereeing in Liverpool in 1996, aged 14, and was appointed to the Football League Referees List in 2014, prior to which he spent two years as a Select Group Assistant Referee.

So far this season, he has shown 106 yellow cards and five red in 24 matches in all competitions.

On Monday night, he will be assisted by Paul Hodskinson and David Avent. Jeremy Simpson will be the fourth official.
