Referee revealed for Leeds

Written by Dan King

Christopher Kavanagh will be the referee when Newcastle take on Leeds on Friday night.

The Lancashire-based official started refereeing in 1998 at the age of 13, and was appointed to the Football League list 16 years later.

So far this term, he has refereed 36 matches in all competitions, showing 119 yellow cards and two red.

And he's a familiar face to Magpies supporters, having taken charge of four matches involving Newcastle so far this season; the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa, the 2-1 wins at Preston North End and Brentford and the 2-2 home draw with Bristol City.

On Friday night, he will be assisted by James Mainwaring and Philip Dermott. Trevor Kettle is the fourth official.
