Referee revealed for final day

Written by Dan King

James Linington will be the referee when Newcastle United entertain Barnsley on the final day of the 2016/17 season.

The Newport official took charge of March's 3-1 defeat to Fulham, while his only previous appointment for a Newcastle game came in an FA Cup fourth round tie at West Bromwich Albion in 2010.

So far this season, he has refereed a total of 34 matches in the Championship, League One, FA Cup, EFL Cup and Checkatrade Trophy, showing 145 yellows and four reds.

He will be assisted on Sunday by James Wilson and Neil Davies, while Graham Salisbury will be the fourth official.
