Punters put their eggs in Wood basket

It's four wins on the spin at home for Newcastle United as they welcome Leicester City on Easter Sunday in the Premier League.

Wolves, Brighton, Aston Villa and Everton have now all left St. James' Park empty-handed after an unbeaten streak at home in the league which stretches back to the last game of 2021 and at 23/20, the Magpies are favourites in the betting to make it five wins out of five in front of the Toon Army faithful.

The Magpies have scored in every home match in the league this season barring clashes with Manchester City and Chelsea, who are first and third on the list of best defences in the whole division, so fans can be optimistic on seeing some goals, especially in a fixture that has yielded 21 in the previous five head-to-heads, an average of just over four per game.

The 21/10 about more than three goals again on Sunday therefore may be popular for the accumulators, while anyone confident enough of a Newcastle win with at least four goals in the game can snap up odds of 5/1.

The betting patterns also suggest Chris Wood will pose a threat in the final third as he seeks to continue a strong run of scoring form.

Following his first goal for Newcastle against Southampton last month, Wood went on to score five goals in four matches for New Zealand during the international break and followed that up with the match-winning goal against Wolves last weekend from the penalty spot.

That was good news for punters who pounced on last week's price boost to 7/2 that the big number 20 would score in a Newcastle win, but anyone who missed out can try again this week with Wood now enhanced to 3/1 from 5/2 by BoyleSports to find the net again in another home victory for Eddie Howe's troops.

Wood is a 5/1 favourite in the first goalscorer betting, a first Wood double for Newcastle is a 9/1 shot, while anyone brave enough to back his scoring streak to continue with a hat-trick are being offered a tasty 50/1.

Newcastle to win & Wood to score - was 5/2… now 10/3
