Probert to referee Baggies clash

Written by Tom Easterby

Lee Probert will referee Newcastle United’s Premier League trip to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night (8pm kick-off).

The clash at The Hawthorns will be the Wiltshire whistler’s 13th appointment of the season so far, in which he has overseen matches in the Premier League, Championship, Leagues One and Two and the EFL Cup.

Probert last took charge of a Magpies game in January, in the 3-1 FA Cup third round replay win over Birmingham City at St. James’ Park. A month earlier, he refereed United’s 2-1 Championship victory at Burton Albion in December 2016.

So far this season, the 45-year-old has officiated in 12 matches in all competitions, showing a total of 22 yellow cards and three reds.

He will be assisted by Andrew Garratt and Dan Cook on Tuesday night, while Mike Dean will be the fourth official.
