United’s Under-18s’ Premier League North Division campaign got off to a losing start against Manchester City on Saturday.

The Magpies enjoyed the better of the opening half at Little Benton, and deservedly led at the break courtesy of Thomas Allan’s strike.

City levelled on the hour-mark, however, as Nabil Touaizi rose high to head home a Tommy Doyle corner.

Newcastle continued to ask questions of the Citizens – North Division victors last season. But, with less than ten minutes remaining, they were undone on the counter. Forward Henri Ogunby applied the finishing touch after the visitors broke with pace.

Dave Watson’s side return to action against Sunderland on Saturday, with the Black Cats one of two sides still to kick off their season.

Newcastle United Under-18s: Huuhtanen, Cass, Allen, Watts, Walters, Aplin (Young, 66), Longstaff, Goodridge (Kasinga, 66), Wilson, Allan (Joyce, 87), Sörensen.
