Newcastle United to support Premier League's No Room For Racism campaign at Spurs game

All Premier League matches from Saturday, 6th April to Monday, 15th April are dedicated to the campaign, providing a platform for clubs to collectively display their commitment to drive diversity and tackle discrimination.

Prior to the 12.30pm kick-off on Saturday, No Room For Racism messaging will be visible around St. James' Park in various forms including the pre-match handshake board and ball plinth. Both teams will also take the knee to send a clear message that discrimination has no place in our game or wider society.

Continued support of the campaign follows a three-year update from the Premier League on its No Room For Racism Action Plan. The update illustrates progress made to increase diversity across the game, while reinforcing a commitment to tackle discrimination and support individuals who are subjected to racist abuse.

Launched in 2021, the Action Plan outlines a series of commitments aimed at creating greater access to opportunities and career progression for Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups in football, along with actions to eradicate racial prejudice.

United As One

Newcastle United's bespoke campaign, United As One, also continues to educate supporters about the positive impact that equality, diversity and inclusion has on both club and community.

This year, Newcastle United proudly became the first Premier League football club to be awarded 'Football Club of Sanctuary' status for its inclusive commitment and dedication to supporting people in the city who are seeking refuge.

Over the past 12 months, the club has also proactively engaged underrepresented groups through a series of programmes. This includes participation in the PFA's Asian Inclusion Mentoring Scheme to encourage representation starting at a grassroots level, alongside involvement with the Coach Inclusion Diversity Scheme; designed to increase representation of female coaches and individuals from Black, Asian or ethnic minority backgrounds within the professional game.

Emphasis has also been placed on educating the next generation through diversity and inclusion inspired engagement sessions at local schools, in addition to regular support of dedicated organisations including Show Racism the Red Card and Kick It Out.

Challenge it, report it, change it

Fans have an important role to play in creating inclusive matchday environments by reporting incidents of alleged discrimination for further investigation by the club, in alignment with the Premier League.

Anyone found guilty of discrimination faces punishment, including legal prosecutions and stadium bans. This season, all 21 reports of racism communicated to Newcastle United have been placed under investigation by the club. In certain cases, five-year stadium bans have subsequently been issued.
