Muñoz named in Mexico U21 squad for Toulon Tournament

Teenage striker Santiago Muñoz has been named in the Mexico Under-21 squad for the upcoming Maurice Revello Tournament in Toulon.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined the Magpies on an 18-month loan from Santos Laguna in August, was part of Mexico's under-23s squad which won the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship in March 2021, earning three caps for his country.

Luis Ernesto Pérez's side begin their campaign on Monday, 30th May when they take on Ghana at Aubagne's Stade de Lattre in Group B.

Mexico, who lost against England in the final of the 2018 edition, then face Venezuela three days later at Vitrolles' Stade Jules-Ladoumègue before returning to Aubagne for their final group game against Indonesia on Sunday, 5th June.

Muñoz, who scored two goals in nine appearances for Newcastle's second-string this term, was part of the Mexico Under-17 squad which reached the 2019 Under-17 World Cup final before narrowly losing out to hosts Brazil.
