Newcastle United forward Aleksandar Mitrović has been named in the provisional Serbia squad ahead of this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Mitrović, who has been on loan at Fulham since January, is included in Mladen Krstajić’s initial 27-man squad for the finals, which is set to be trimmed to 23 before the tournament gets under way in June.
The 23-year-old helped his country reach the World Cup by scoring seven goals in qualifying, while he also played his part in helping the Cottagers make it to Saturday’s Championship play-off final, netting 12 league goals in 17 outings.
Serbia will face Brazil, Costa Rica and Switzerland in Group E at their first World Cup since 2010.
