Middlesbrough U18s 3 Newcastle U18s 2

Newcastle's under-18s are still looking for their first win of the season after defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Kurtis Russell and Elias Sorensen were on target for United at Middlesbrough's Rockliffe Park.

But Dave Watson's side were edged out by the odd goal in five. Newcastle started brightly, but fell behind inside the opening 20 minutes as Billal Brahimi beat Otto Huuhtanen.

The Magpies equalised when Sorensen set up Russell, recently back from injury, then in the second half went ahead.

Russell was fouled by Nathan Guru and Danish teen Sorensen despatched the resulting penalty kick.

But with 15 minutes left, the Teessiders equalised through Tyrone O'Neill's deflected shot. And in the third minute of stoppage time, O'Neill won it for Boro.

Newcastle United Under-18s: Otto Huuthanen, Max Allen, Adam Wilson, Kelland Watts, Isaac Gamblin, Jack Young, Kurtis Russell (Thomas Cole 86), Mace Goodridge, Elias Sorensen, Thomas Allan, Deece Kasinga
