Matty Longstaff nominated for Premier League Goal of the Month award

Written by Dan King

Newcastle United's Matty Longstaff has been nominated for the Premier League's Budweiser Goal of the Month award for October for his stunning strike against Manchester United.

The 19-year-old, making his top flight debut for the Magpies, powered a low shot from 22 yards beyond David de Gea to score what proved to be the only goal of the game in a man of the match performance.

And he has now been shortlisted for the monthly prize for his goal. Voting opened at 1pm (GMT) on Friday, 1st November and closes at 6pm (GMT) on Monday, 4th November. Supporters can vote here.

Also nominated are Brighton & Hove Albion's Aaron Connolly, for the second of two goals he scored against Tottenham Hotspur; Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz, for a strike against Norwich City; Gylfi Sigurdsson of Everton, for an effort against West Ham United; Leicester's James Maddison, who scored in the Foxes' 9-0 win against Southampton; Burnley man Jay Rodriguez, for his goal against Chelsea; and Man United's Anthony Martial for a strike against Norwich.

Jetro Willems was shortlisted for September's award for his strike against Liverpool at Anfield, but was pipped by Southampton's Moussa Djenepo, who won the prize for his solo goal against Sheffield United.

The winner of October's award will be announced later this month.
