Match officials confirmed for Sheffield United trip

Andy Madley will be the referee for Newcastle United's Premier League trip to Sheffield United on Tuesday evening (kick-off 6pm GMT).

The Magpies travel to Bramall Lane going in search of a third successive victory against the Blades in the English top-flight and this will be the first time this term Madley has overseen a fixture involving Steve Bruce's side.

In the 17 games Madley has officiated so far this season, across the Premier League, Championship, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Europa League and Nations League, the 37-year-old has handed out 43 yellow cards and shown one red.

Promoted to the Select Group 1 of Referees in 2019, Madley was the man in the middle for two of Newcastle's Premier League fixtures last season.

The Yorkshire official brandished seven yellow cards during the Magpies' goalless draw against Burnley at St. James' Park in February, booking Javier Manquillo, Jonjo Shelvey, Dwight Gayle and Danny Rose.

He also took charge of Newcastle's 5-0 defeat at Manchester City back in July but booked no players that day.

On Tuesday, Madley will be assisted by Eddie Smart and Derek Eaton while Lee Mason will be the fourth official. Robert Jones will occupy the role of VAR and will be aided by Mark Scholes.
