Match officials confirmed for league leaders' visit

Written by Dan King

Andre Marriner will be the referee for Wednesday's visit of Premier League leaders Manchester City.

It will be the West Midlands-based official's third game of the season involving Newcastle United; he took charge of the Magpies' opening match of the season, when he dismissed Jonjo Shelvey against Tottenham Hotspur, as well as United's 1-0 defeat at Brighton in September.

He's taken charge of 17 games in all competitions this term, showing 49 yellow cards and three red cards.

Marriner was the referee for the 2013 FA Cup final and is on the FIFA list of match officials.

On Wednesday, he will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Richard West. Neil Swarbrick will be the fourth official.
