Match officials confirmed for Gunners game

Written by Dan King

Lee Probert will be the referee when Newcastle entertain Arsenal on Saturday (kick-off 3pm BST).

The Wiltshire whistler was fourth official when United drew at Cardiff last month, but hasn't refereed a game involving the Magpies since November 2017, when Rafa Benítez's side fought back to draw 2-2 at West Bromwich Albion.

He began refereeing in 1986 and a mark of his progress came when he was awarded the FA Cup final in 2014.

So far this season, he has been the man in charge on four occasions - twice in the top flight, once in the Championship and once in League One - and has shown 17 yellow cards. He has also sent two players off, both in the same game as Bournemouth and Everton drew 2-2 in August.

Last season, he refereed 29 games, showing 57 yellow cards and five red.

On Saturday, Probert will be assisted by Simon Beck and Adrian Holmes. David Coote will be the fourth official.
