Mason the man in the middle at Everton

Written by Luke Vinton

Lee Mason will be the referee for Wednesday's Premier League clash against Everton (kick-off 7.45pm GMT).

The 47-year-old was the fourth official at St. James' Park for Newcastle's Premier League defeat against West Ham United on Saturday but this is the first time he's refereed a game involving the Magpies this term.

Born in Bolton, Mason was the referee in United's memorable 3-2 away win at West Ham last season.

He has brandished 24 yellow cards in seven Premier League fixtures this season but is yet to produce a red card in the English top flight. In all competitions, he has taken charge of 13 matches, showing one red card and 33 yellow cards.

On Wednesday, he will be assisted by Marc Perry and Daniel Robathan while Andrew Madley is the fourth official.
