Mason in the middle on Saturday

Written by Dan King

Lee Mason will referee Newcastle's Premier League clash against Everton on Saturday (kick-off 3pm GMT).

The Bolton-born official has refereed one game involving the Magpies this season - which was, coincidentally, their game against the Toffees at Goodison Park in December.

On that occasion, he showed five yellow cards - all to Newcastle players - as the match finished 1-1. So far this term he has taken charge of 25 games in all competitions, showing 74 yellow cards and two red cards.

Since 2006, Mason has been on the list of Select Group Referees who officiate in the Premier League. Last season, he was the man in the middle for one Newcastle match - the 3-2 win at West Ham.

On Saturday, he will be assisted by Harry Lennard and Constantine Hatzidakis. Mike Dean will be the fourth official.
