Marriner in the middle against Man United

Written by Luke Vinton

Andre Marriner will referee Newcastle United's Premier League clash with Manchester United on Wednesday evening (kick-off 8pm GMT).

The Birmingham-born official, who refereed the 2013 FA Cup final, was last in charge at St. James' Park back in October - with United suffering a 1-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The 47-year-old was also the man in the middle for the Magpies' fixture against Crystal Palace - a goalless draw at Selhurst Park back in September.

So far this season, Marriner has officiated 15 top flight fixtures, brandishing 46 yellow cards and showing two red cards. He's also refereed two games in other competitions, showing a further five yellow cards.

Last season, he oversaw five Newcastle games, including the opening day defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. In 35 outings last term, he showed 97 yellow cards and brandished five red cards.

He will be assisted by Scott Ledger and Simon Long. Stuart Attwell will be the fourth official.
