Magpies youngster named in Scotland under-17s squad

Written by Dan King

Reagan Thomson has been named in the Scotland under-17s squad for two friendlies in Spain next month.

The 16-year-old midfielder joined Newcastle United on a scholarship contract from Queen's Park earlier this month, and has been included in Brian McLaughlin's squad for games against Hungary and Sweden.

Both matches will be played at the Pinatar Arena. Scotland face Hungary on Friday, 7th February and Sweden on Monday, 10th February.

Thomson already has three caps for his country at under-17 level - he played in European Championship qualifiers against Armenia, Iceland and Croatia - and in his first interview after joining the Magpies, he said: "Those were my first three, and I'm hoping to get back in the squad for the Elite Round in March to qualify (for the Euros) so hopefully if I can do well here, I can get back in."

The Scotland under-17s squad to face Hungary and Sweden is: Jay Hogarth (Rangers), Tom Ritchie (Aberdeen), Lewis Coulton (Preston North End), Adam Devine (Rangers), Leon King (Rangers), Calvin Ramsay (Aberdeen), Liam Smith (Manchester City), Leo Watson (Heart of Midlothian), Mackenzie Carse (Celtic), Matthew Craig (Tottenham Hotspur), Jayden Fairley (Hibernian), Kevin Hanratty (Aberdeen), Cole McKinnon (Rangers), Dean McMaster (St. Mirren), Chris Mochrie (Dundee United), Dane Murray (Celtic), Lewis Neilson (Dundee United), Reagan Thomson (Newcastle United), Adam Brooks (Celtic), Evan Cunningham (Blackburn Rovers).
