Magpies handed Forest tie in Carabao Cup

Written by Tom Easterby

Newcastle United will host Championship side Nottingham Forest in the second round of the Carabao Cup later this month.

Rafa Benítez’s side will entertain Mark Warburton’s Forest at St. James’ Park in what will be Newcastle's first game of the competition this season, and the game will take place in the week beginning Monday, 21st August.

Forest – for whom former Magpies frontman Daryl Murphy could feature – reached the second round thanks to a 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

United, meanwhile, reached the last eight of the competition last term when it was known as the EFL Cup, before bowing out to Hull City on penalties at the KCOM Stadium.
