Madley in the middle at Goodison Park

Written by Tom Easterby

Bobby Madley will referee Newcastle United’s Premier League game at Everton on Monday night (8pm kick-off).

United travel to Merseyside to face Sam Allardyce’s side at Goodison Park, hoping to pick up their fifth league win in succession.

And Yorkshire official Madley has been confirmed as the referee for the game, which will be the first time he has taken charge of a Magpies fixture this season.

The last time the 32-year-old was in the middle of a game involving Newcastle was the 2-1 win at Brighton & Hove Albion in February 2017, when Ayoze Pérez’s winner kept Rafa Benítez’s men firmly in the running for the Championship title. That was the only time Madley refereed a United match last term.

In the 2017/18 campaign so far, he has dished out a total of 96 yellow cards in 27 games, as well as five red cards.

He will be assisted by Marc Perry and Adrian Holmes on Monday, while Andre Marriner will be the fourth official.
