Matty Longstaff leaves on loan

Matty Longstaff has joined Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen on a season-long loan from Newcastle United.

He has also signed a one-year extension to his contract at St. James' Park, where he has been ever since he was spotted playing for North Shields Juniors as a youngster.

The former England under-20 international burst onto the scene with the winner against Manchester United on his Premier League debut in October 2019 - one of three goals he scored in his breakthrough campaign - but made only five appearances last term following a long-term injury.

The 21-year-old - whose older brother, Sean, spent time on loan in the Scottish Premier League with Kilmarnock in 2017 - moves to Pittodrie with Aberdeen currently sitting second in the table, having won two of their opening three matches.

The Dons are managed by former Magpies midfielder Stephen Glass.
