Loan watch: Trio riding high in League One

Gilliead started and finished Bradford City’s 1-0 win over Rotherham United at Valley Parade, a result which saw the Bantams rise to third in the table.

They are level on points with Longstaff’s Blackpool, who beat Oxford United 3-1 to maintain their 100 per cent home record this season. Longstaff – already with four goals to his name this term – teed up Callum Cooke for the Tangerines’ second.

Toney didn’t start Wigan Athletic’s 3-0 win over Bristol Rovers at the DW Stadium, but still ended up playing the majority of the game after replacing Nick Powell before the break. The Latics are a point worse off than Bradford and Blackpool, but will climb above both with victory over Northampton Town on Tuesday night.

In the Championship, Adam Armstrong came on 20 minutes from time as Bolton Wanderers lost 2-0 at Ipswich Town. The Trotters remain rooted to the bottom of the division with just two points to their name.

Closer to home, Callum Williams clocked up another 90 minutes for Gateshead, but the Heed suffered a late defeat to Aldershot Town at the International Stadium.

It was a better afternoon for Stuart Findlay, who helped Kilmarnock to a creditable 1-1 draw at high-flying Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

A little further afield, Achraf Lazaar was handed a first start for Serie A side Benevento, but the Stregoni suffered a disastrous 6-0 defeat at the hands of Napoli. Marco Baroni’s side remain bottom of the table, and have still to pick up a point since their promotion to the top flight.

Finally, in the Jupiler Pro League, Matz Sels was involved throughout as Anderlecht drew 2-2 at Kortrijk. Belgium’s most decorated side have yet to get going this season, and already sit nine points adrift of table-toppers Club Brugge.
