Loan Watch: Trio On Target

Toney, 20, lined up for Shrewsbury Town against his former side Northampton Town in their League One clash at the New Meadow, but despite his brace the Shrews still slipped to a 4-2 defeat.

Both of Toney's goals came from the penalty spot - his first, in the 36th minute, pulling one back after the Cobblers had raced into two-goal lead, while his second successful spot-kick in the 90th minute came too late to salvage anything for his side.

Armstrong, meanwhile, started for Barnsley in the Championship, and fired them into a first half lead at Brentford from Marley Watkins' assist.

Sam Winnall doubled the Tykes' lead after the break and sealed a 2-0 win, with 19-year-old Armstrong replaced by Ryan Williams with five minutes left at Griffin Park.

And a day later, in France, Henri Saivet also got himself on the scoresheet in Saint-Etienne's 2-0 victory at Caen.

Midfielder Haris Vuckic was an unused substitute in Bradford City's 3-3 draw at home to Sheffield United in League One, while full back Jamie Sterry played the full 90 minutes as his Coventry City side recorded a 2-0 win over Rochdale, thanks to goals from Daniel Agyei and Andre Wright.

Sammy Ameobi's Bolton Wanderers, meanwhile, take on Bury at Gigg Lane on Monday night.

In League Two, Macaulay Gillesphey's Carlisle United are still unbeaten, after they secured a 2-1 victory at Stevenage on Saturday.

Gillesphey played the full 90 minutes at centre half for Keith Curle's men, as goals from Jason Kennedy and Danny Grainger - the latter's a penalty - made Matt Godden's equaliser from the spot redundant.

Elsewhere, winger Alex Gilliead played the whole game for Luton Town as they drew 1-1 at home to Mansfield Town, and Scotland Under-21 international Kyle Cameron also played 90 minutes for Newport County, picking up a yellow card as the Exiles remained bottom of the Football League after their 3-1 defeat to Plymouth Argyle.

But striker Tom Heardman didn't make the bench for Hartlepool United, as Craig Hignett's side lost 3-1 at home to Leyton Orient.

And in Spain, Emmanuel Riviere had a night to forget on Friday as he was sent off in Osasuna's 2-1 loss at home to Real Betis.

The French forward came on as a substitute for Oriol Riera just before the hour, but was dismissed with four minutes left on the clock at the Estadio El Sadar for violent conduct.

Siem de Jong wasn't involved in PSV Eindhoven's 1-0 win over Sparta Rotterdam, and goalkeeper Tim Krul also missed out on Ajax's 1-1 draw at Feyenoord.

Defender Kevin Mbabu enjoyed a fine afternoon in Switzerland as BSC Young Boys thrashed Grasshopper 4-0, with Mbabu having a hand in the opening two goals before picking up a booking in the second half.

And in Ligue 1, Florian Thauvin played the entirety of Marseille's 0-0 draw at Paris Saint-Germain, while Saivet picked up a booking before opening the scoring in the 49th minute of Saint-Etienne's 2-0 win over Caen.

Former Bordeaux man Saivet, who was replaced by Vincent Pajot with seven minutes remaining, volleyed home just after the break on Sunday, becoming the third United loanee to find the net over the weekend.
