Loan Watch: Sterry Scores

Written by Dan King

Jamie Sterry scored his first senior career goal on Sunday to help Coventry earn an FA Cup first round replay against Morecambe.

The Sky Blues were losing when full-back Sterry cut inside and fired home in the 72nd minute. He played the full game and was booked.

Newport County were also held to a 1-1 draw in the cup, at non-league Alfreton, with Kyle Cameron playing the whole match.

Saturday's cup games saw Shrewsbury progress to the second round with a 3-0 win against Barnet. Ivan Toney played for 85 minutes.

Bolton also went through with a 1-0 victory against Grimsby - Sammy Ameobi competed 90 minutes - while Alex Gilliead started as Luton won 3-1 against Exeter. He was substituted in the 62nd minute.

However, Bradford were knocked out by Accrington Stanley. Haris Vuckic was named in the starting XI but came off at half time in a 2-1 defeat.

Macaulay Gillesphey was an unused substitute while Tom Heardman wasn't involved as Carlisle and Hartlepool both went through on Sunday.

In the Championship, Adam Armstrong played for the first 64 minutes of Barnsley's 0-0 draw with Burton Albion while on the continent, Florian Thauvin completed 90 minutes as Marseille were beaten 3-1 by Montpellier.

Henri Saivet played 63 minutes of Saint-Etienne's 0-0 draw with Metz while Kevin Mbabu - who was sent off in midweek - picked up a booking as he played 90 minutes in BSC Young Boys' goalless draw with Luzern.

Siem de Jong missed PSV's game against Twente through injury while Emmanuel Riviere was suspended for Osasuna's defeat to Deportivo Alaves.

Finally, Paul Woolston made his debut in goal for Blyth Spartans on Saturday and marked it with a clean sheet in a 2-0 win against Barwell.

And Spartans boss Alun Armstrong told his club's official website: "I thought he was outstanding.
"He came for things, his kicking was top notch and he just gave the lads a little bit more confidence."
