Loan Watch: Sørensen bags late winner

Elias Sørensen’s last-gasp winner handed Almere City a 2-1 victory over PSV Eindhoven’s under-21s on Monday night.

The on-loan Newcastle United forward, who had missed four of the Eerste Divisie outfit’s last six games, started at PSV in what was his eighth outing for the club.

And with just seconds remaining, the Danish striker made the decisive impact with a fine, thumping finish into the roof of the net to give his side all three points on the road.

It was Sørensen’s third goal since his season-long switch to the Netherlands, and his first since a strike against Ajax’s second string at the end of October.

It was a good round of fixtures for another Magpies loanee, as Jack Young found himself back in the Tranmere Rovers line-up – and picked up the man of the match award.

Keith Hill restored Young to the side, and the midfielder responded with a strong showing as they earned a 3-0 win at Bolton Wanderers in League Two, with the United man collecting the individual accolade for Rovers.

And in League One, Kell Watts was part of the Plymouth Argyle side which kept a clean sheet as they beat MK Dons 1-0 on Saturday.

Watts’ side had lost their last six but the young defender helped them record a shut-out to arrest that slump, playing 90 minutes and collecting a yellow card in the process.

Goalkeeper Freddie Woodman kept a clean sheet too, helping Swansea City record a 2-0 victory over Barnsley in the Championship.

That shut-out was Woodman’s 11th in 20 games for the Swans so far this term – an impressive record for the England Under-21 international.

Another defender, Lewis Cass, was part of the Hartlepool United side who were beaten on penalties by Halifax Town in the FA Trophy.

The full back played 90 minutes of the 3-3 draw, before being withdrawn injured just prior to the shoot-out. Former Magpie Jamie Sterry joined Pools on Monday, and will compete with loanee Cass for the right back berth.

Accrington Stanley duo Mo Sangare and Tom Allan weren’t involved in their 0-0 draw against Blackpool, while Jake Turner was an unused substitute in Morecambe’s 2-1 win over Colchester.

And there were 90-minute outings for both Florian Lejeune and Yoshinori Muto in La Liga.

Lejeune’s Alaves were beaten 2-0 at Celta Vigo, while Muto’s Eibar lost 3-1 at home to Real Madrid.
