Loan watch: Sammy scores a stunner

Written by Dan King

Sammy Ameobi added another spectacular goal to his growing collection on Monday night.

After a slow start to his Bolton career, the 24-year-old wideman has weighed in with some important - and eye-catching - goals for the Trotters in recent weeks.

And his latest was perhaps his best yet as he fired home from long range in Bolton's 4-0 win against Gillingham on Monday night.

Also on target this week was Siem de Jong, who scored his first PSV Eindhoven goal within minutes of coming off the bench against Go Ahead Eagles on Saturday. It proved to be the winner.

Ivan Toney claimed an assist for Shrewsbury, also on Saturday, as his side beat Millwall 1-0. On the same day, Florian Thauvin set up a goal for Marseille as he played for 70 minutes of a 2-1 win against Dijon.

Macaulay Gillesphey and Alex Gilliead - who were team-mates on loan with Carlisle last season - were on opposite sides as the Cumbrians faced Luton. They drew 1-1, with Gillesphey arriving from the bench in the 69th minute; seven minutes earlier, Gilliead had been introduced for the Hatters.

Kevin Mbabu started as BSC Young Boys continued their good form with a 3-2 win at Thun on Sunday while Emmanuel Riviere, Haris Vuckic and Henri Saivet were all unused substitutes for their loan clubs.

Adam Armstrong, Jamie Sterry and Kyle Cameron were ruled out for Barnsley, Coventry and Newport respectively due to injury.
