Loan watch: Promotion-chasing pair score again

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Aleksandar Mitrović and Adam Armstrong were both on target for their promotion-chasing clubs over the weekend.

It is now three in three for Mitrović, who opened the scoring for Fulham in the Cottagers’ 2-1 win over Derby County in the Championship.

Slaviša Jokanović’s side leapfrogged the Rams with victory at Pride Park, and are unbeaten in the Championship since 16th December.

Armstrong, meanwhile, netted after just six minutes to give Blackburn Rovers the lead against Wigan Athletic in League One. Elliott Bennett added a second before the break, but Wigan fought back to snatch a 2-2 draw.

North of the border, two United youngsters came up against one another in the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup, as Freddie Woodman and Aberdeen took on a Kilmarnock side featuring Stuart Findlay. The Dons struck first through skipper Graeme Shinnie, but Kris Boyd got the better of Woodman from the spot to force a replay at Rugby Park.

As a result of last week’s adverse weather conditions, only one other Magpies loanee was in action on British shores. That player was Jack Colback, who played 90 minutes as Nottingham Forest beat relegation-threatened Birmingham City 2-1 at the City Ground.

Belgian ‘keeper Matz Sels did get another game under his belt for Anderlecht, though, helping Les Mauves et Blancs move up to second in the First Division A with victory over Zulte Waregem.
