Loan watch: Mitrović on target as Cottagers keep the pressure on

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Aleksandar Mitrović struck for the tenth time in his last nine appearances for club and country as Fulham kept up the pressure on Cardiff City at the top of the Championship by beating Leeds United.

Mitrović had a part to play in the Cottagers’ first, with the Serb’s headed effort bouncing off teammate Kevin McDonald before trickling into the far corner of the net.

The frontman put the outcome beyond doubt by applying the finishing touch to a flowing counter-attacking move after the hour-mark, Slaviša Jokanović’s side breaking with pace after ‘keeper Marcus Bettinelli denied Leeds’ Caleb Ekuban.

Fulham trail Cardiff by five points heading into the final month of the season, though they have played a game more than the Bluebirds.

The only other Magpie in action for his loan club on Tuesday night was Kyle Cameron, who played the first 70 minutes of Queen of the South’s 2-2 draw with Falkirk at Palmerston Park.

Queens missed the chance to move within four points of a Scottish Championship play-off place after shipping a late equaliser, Cameron having left the field with the score at 1-1.
