Loan Watch: Magpies trio on target

Written by Tom Easterby

Three Magpies players got on the scoresheet for their respective loan clubs over the weekend.

Midfielder Sean Longstaff, who is on loan at League One side Blackpool, helped the Tangerines to a thumping 5-0 victory at home to Bradford City.

The 20-year-old slotted home his eighth goal of the campaign at Bloomfield Road, capitalising on a mistake to compound the Bantams’ woes. Winger Alex Gilliead appeared as a second half substitute for the visitors.

In the Championship, Aleksandar Mitrović bagged the winner as Fulham maintained their promotion push with a 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

That effort was the in-form Serbian international’s ninth goal in his last 12 league games.

And in Scotland, centre back Stuart Findlay bagged his second of the season so far - and the match-winning goal - as Kilmarnock earned a 1-0 win at Patrick Thistle in the Scottish Premiership.

Elsewhere in League One, there were starts for Blackburn Rovers’ Adam Armstrong and Scunthorpe United’s Ivan Toney, but neither found the target as Rovers beat Southend 1-0 and the Iron drew 1-1 at AFC Wimbledon.

Jack Colback played 90 minutes in Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 defeat at Middlesbrough, while Jamie Sterry featured in Crewe’s thrilling 4-3 win at Mansfield Town in League Two.

In the National League, forward Lewis McNall was withdrawn with an injury just quarter of an hour into Gateshead’s goalless draw at Bromley.

And while Freddie Woodman was an unused substitute in Aberdeen’s 2-0 defeat at Hearts, defender Kyle Cameron started and was yellow carded in Queen of the South’s 2-0 home defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Further afield, goalkeeper Matz Sels helped Anderlecht to a 2-1 win over Charleroi in Belgium, while Rolando Aarons played 70 minutes of Hellas Verona's 1-0 Serie A win over Cagliari.

Henri Saivet, meanwhile, replaced Robinho at half time in Sivasspor's game at Konyaspor, but couldn't prevent the Turkish side from suffering a 5-0 defeat.
