Loan Watch: Longstaff nets in Blackpool win

Written by Tom Easterby

Sean Longstaff fired home his ninth goal of the season to help Blackpool to a 3-0 win over Northampton Town on Tuesday night.

Longstaff – who also hit the post late on – blasted home from 25 yards just after the hour at Bloomfield Road, adding to Armand Gnanduillet’s first half opener to make it 2-0.

Jimmy Ryan’s strike with quarter of an hour left made it three and sealed the points for the Tangerines, who move up to 12th in the League One table.

Midfielder Longstaff was also on target on Saturday, when Blackpool beat Bradford City 5-0.

Aleksandar Mitrovic played the full game for Fulham as their 1-0 win over Reading maintained their promotion challenge, while Jack Colback also featured as Nottingham Forest were beaten 1-0 by Brentford at the City Ground.

Back in the third tier, Adam Armstrong couldn’t help Blackburn Rovers find a way past Gillingham in their goalless draw at Priestfield, while another frontman Lewis McNall missed Gateshead’s 4-2 defeat at Tranmere Rovers through injury.
