Loan watch: Krul the hero as AZ advance

Tim Krul was the hero for AZ Alkmaar as the Kaaskoppen progressed to the final of the KNVB Cup following a penalty shootout win over SC Cambuur.
After a goalless 120 minutes, both sides missed two of their first four spot-kicks before Wout Weghorst converted to pile the pressure on Cambuur’s Martijn Barto. However, the forward’s attempt was kept out by Krul, with AZ advancing to play Vitesse in next month’s final.
Earlier this week, Florian Thauvin’s Marseille exited their own domestic cup competition after a 4-3 defeat to Monaco after extra-time. Ex-United midfielder Remy Cabella struck twice for Les Phocéens, with Thauvin present throughout.
On Tuesday, Alex Gilliead racked up 90 minutes as Bradford City drew 2-2 with Milton Keynes Dons in League One – his first start since 14th February.
In League Two, Macaulay Gillesphey’s Carlisle United were on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline at Cheltenham Town, while Paul Woolston suffered a rare defeat with Blyth Spartans, who lost 2-1 at Spennymoor Town in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division.
Alun Armstrong’s side remain 13 points clear at the summit, however.
