Loan watch: Gilliead triumphs against Toney

Written by Dan King

Two of Newcastle United's young loan stars faced each other at the weekend, and Alex Gilliead's Bradford got the better of Ivan Toney's Wigan.

Both played the whole game at the DW Stadium on Saturday, but the Latics suffered a rare home defeat as substitute Tyrell Robinson scored in stoppage time for the Bantams.

The two sides remain very much in the League One promotion race, with Wigan in second place and Bradford in third.

Blackpool are 12th in the same division after a 1-0 win at Peterborough. Sean Longstaff set up the only goal of the game, scored by Kyle Vassell.

In the Scottish Premiership, Stuart Findlay played the full game and helped Kilmarnock keep a clean sheet as they drew 0-0 with Dundee.

Callum Williams missed Gateshead's 1-0 victory against Tranmere due to injury while on Friday, Adam Armstrong started for Bolton as they drew 0-0 at Preston. The Newcastle youngster was replaced in the 72nd minute.

Matz Sels was an unused substitute for Anderlecht, who won 2-1 at Mouscron, while on Sunday, Benevento suffered another Serie A defeat.

Achraf Lazaar was brought on in stoppage time against Sassuolo - but couldn't prevent his side from conceding in the 94th minute.
