Loan watch: Gilliead scores for high-flying Bantams

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Alex Gilliead scored his second goal of the season as Bradford City consolidated their position in the League One play-off places with victory at Fleetwood Town on New Year’s Day.

Stuart McCall’s side trailed to Jack Sowerby’s strike at the interval, but Gilliead applied the finishing touch to a quick Bradford break to restore parity 11 minutes into the second half.

A quick-fire turnaround was completed just after the hour mark, Shay McCartan curling home following a corner to secure the Bantams’ fourth win in six.

Elsewhere in League One, Sean Longstaff helped Blackpool to a first win since 18th November, starting and finishing the Seasiders’ 2-1 success at struggling Rochdale.

Ivan Toney played the final 20 minutes of Wigan Athletic’s 1-0 victory at former club Northampton Town, a result which keeps the Latics two points clear at the summit.

Neither Adam Armstrong, Callum Williams nor Achraf Lazaar were involved for their respective clubs, the latter missing out on Benevento’s 1-0 win over Chievo – the Stregoni’s first three-point haul in Serie A this season.
