Loan Watch: Assist for Anderson in Rovers victory

Written by Luke Vinton

Elliot Anderson recorded his first assist at senior level for Bristol Rovers, helping Joey Barton's side claim a 2-0 victory over Sutton United on Tuesday night.

The highly-rated 19-year-old, who made his Premier League debut for his boyhood club against Arsenal in January 2021, joined the League Two outfit on loan for the remainder of the season last month.

The Magpies youngster made an immediate impact at the Memorial Stadium, teeing up Harry Anderson for the opening goal inside four minutes.

Anderson, who played the full 90 minutes, went close on three occasions to registering his first senior goal before The Gas extended their lead within a minute of the restart, courtesy of Aaron Collins' strike.

Elsewhere, midfielder Joe White was involved for Hartlepool United in their League Two clash against Tranmere Rovers as the Carlisle-born teenager, who made his Newcastle first-team debut during a pre-season friendly at Rotherham United in July, was introduced from the substitutes' bench in the 57th minute, replacing Joe Grey.

Peter Clarke's own goal on the stroke of half-time proved the difference at Victoria Park as Graeme Lee's side made it three consecutive league wins following an impressive 1-0 victory over the promotion-chasing Super White Army.

Defender Kell Watts, who made his Premier League bow for the Magpies against Liverpool on the final day of the 2019/20 season, recorded a clean sheet in Wigan Athletic's 2-0 home win over Crewe Alexandra.

The 22-year-old centre-back played the full 90 minutes at the DW Stadium as the Latics moved within six points of League One leaders Rotherham United, with two games in hand over the Millers.

Jeff Hendrick was an unused substitute for Queens Park Rangers as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away at Millwall.
