Loan Watch: Armstrong brace earns Rovers win

In-form frontman Adam Armstrong was among the goals again over the Easter weekend, bagging a brace to give Blackburn Rovers a 2-1 win over MK Dons on Monday.
The 21-year-old’s well-struck shot gave Rovers the lead early on against the Dons, and from an almost identical postion, Armstrong netted his second in first half stoppage time.
Peter Pawlett got one back for the hosts, but it wasn’t enough and Armstrong’s brace – which means he has now scored nine goals in nine games – ensured Blackburn remain at the top of League One.
Elsewhere in the third tier, Ivan Toney (Scunthorpe United) and Alex Gilliead (Bradford City) saw their games fall victim to the weather, while Sean Longstaff was introduced as a 70th-minute substitute in Blackpool’s 2-1 defeat at Oldham Athletic.
In the Championship, Jack Colback missed out on a game as Nottingham Forest’s home game against Barnsley was called off. Lewis McNall’s Gateshead also saw their game at FC Halifax postponed.
There was a run-out for Jamie Sterry, though, as he returned from injury in Crewe Alexandra’s 2-2 draw at Port Vale, while further afield there were appearances for Rolando Aarons, who played just over an hour at San Siro as Hellas Verona were beaten 3-0 by Inter Milan, and Matz Sels, who saved a penalty in Anderlecht’s 2-0 defeat to Gent.
Some of the other Magpies players currently out on loan – including Aleksandar Mitrovic, Freddie Woodman, Kyle Cameron and Stuart Findlay – will be in action for their loan clubs on Tuesday night.
