Loan Watch: Allan makes debut in Morton win

Tom Allan made his debut for Greenock Morton on Saturday, helping his new loan club record a 3-1 Scottish Cup win over Celtic B.

Allan joined the Scottish Championship outfit along with fellow Magpies Oisin McEntee on transfer deadline day, and the pair will spend the entire 2021/22 campaign at Cappielow.

And with McEntee on international duty with the Republic of Ireland’s under-21s, Allan was named on the bench for the cup clash, entering the fray with just under 20 minutes remaining.

By that stage, Morton were cruising to victory with the scoreline already at 3-1, but once winger Allan replaced Lewis McGrattan, the United youngster could have extended his side’s lead as he went close twice in the closing stages.

He will now hope to be involved from the start as Gus MacPherson’s men travel to Kilmarnock for a Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon.

Elsewhere, it was a quiet afternoon for the Magpies’ other loanees, with Lewis Cass playing a half for Port Vale as they were beaten by 3-2 by Rochdale in League Two.

Cass came off the bench at the break with the scores level at 1-1, but couldn’t prevent the Valiants from slipping to defeat against Dale at Vale Park.

And Jake Turner’s Colchester United saw their fourth tier clash with Sutton United called off after the newly-promoted Sutton camp were hit by some positive COVID tests.
