Krafth called up for Sweden's Euros squad

Written by Rory Mitchinson

Newcastle United’s Emil Krafth has been named in Sweden’s 26-man squad for next month’s European Championships.

It will be a second major tournament appearance for the defender, who played twice for the Blågult at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Krafth has enjoyed a strong end to his second campaign in black and white, figuring in the Magpies’ last three Premier League outings and netting his first goal for the club in last week’s 4-3 defeat to newly-crowned champions Manchester City.

The Swedes – who haven’t missed a European Championship since 1996 – take on Poland, Slovakia and Spain in the competition’s Group E.

They kick off against the Spanish in Seville on 14th June, before playing Slovakia in Saint-Petersburg four days later and Poland at the same venue on the 23rd.

Janne Andersson’s side were originally meant to be based in the Republic of Ireland for the duration of the tournament, but Dublin’s removal as a host city means they will now set up camp at home, in Gothenburg, instead.
