Kenedy on the cover for Baggies visit

Written by Tom Easterby

Brazilian loan star Kenedy is the player in focus inside the matchday programme for Newcastle United’s penultimate home game of the season on Saturday.

West Bromwich Albion are the visitors this weekend, in what will be the 22-year-old's final outing at St. James' Park before his loan spell ends at the end of the campaign.

This week, Kenedy – who is ineligible for the final-day clash with parent club Chelsea – sat down with UNITED, the club’s official matchday programme, to talk about his stint in black and white.

“I’m quite excited because I’m playing well and my teammates are playing very well as well,” he told UNITED. “They’ve been helping me and we’ve all been helping each other. It’s all going good, we’re doing well. We are still working hard to get better and better and stay in a better position, keeping as high as we can.

“I come from Santa Rita. To be here is good, it’s fine, you know – you appreciate it. I’m really glad to be here. And the club – they have helped me with everything. The city is very good too.

“And now, I am a fan of Newcastle’s fans. They are amazing. At first when I came, OK, but when I saw the game against Leicester, it was something amazing, and here against Arsenal as well. I’m a fan of them, not the other way around.”

Inside this weekend’s issue, Kenedy also discusses his extensive tattoo collection and his childhood in Brazil, while there are plenty more features to enjoy.

Gareth Williams is the latest staff member in focus in our United Backstage feature. Gareth remembers his own career in the game - in which he enjoyed a memorable FA Cup run with Blyth Spartans and lifted the FA Vase at Wembley as a Whitley Bay player - and also lifts the lid on a fledgling partnership between Newcastle United Foundation and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, based at the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle.

Elsewhere, we've a four-page interview with David Mills – once Britain's most expensive footballer. Mills chats about his record-breaking move to Saturday's visitors, West Brom, and also reflects on his three separate spells at Newcastle – twice as a player, once as a scout.

Paul Joannou looks back at St. James' Park's history as a top-class venue, and pays tribute to the late Roy Bentley - who passed away last weekend at the age of 93. And, in this week's High Hopes, we get to know young goalkeeper Dan Langley a little bit better.

To read all of this, and much more, pick up a copy of UNITED from around St. James’ Park or in the club store on Saturday, priced at just £3.
