Jimmy Kerray - 1935-2021

Newcastle United were saddened to learn of the death of former player Jimmy Kerray, who passed away on Saturday. He was 85.

One of Joe Harvey’s early signings at St. James’ Park as manager, Kerray joined United as an inside forward in February 1962 from Huddersfield Town in an exchange cash deal for Len White.

The Stirling-born forward appeared on 40 occasions for the Black ‘n’ Whites and scored ten goals, netting on his debut against Southampton. Kerray was a noted goalscorer north of the border and at times he dazzled the fans at Gallowgate with a nice touch on the ball and an urge to get into the box. However, he only remained at St. James’ Park for a little over a year before heading back to Scottish football with Dunfermline.

Kerray also turned out for Raith Rovers, St. Johnstone, Stirling Albion and Falkirk. He settled back in Huddersfield then in his native Central Scotland, living for many years near Doune. He died in Larbert after suffering from dementia.

Our condolences go out to Jimmy’s family and friends.
