Jamie Miley's pride in playing alongside brother Lewis
Midfielder Jamie Miley expressed his pride in featuring alongside brother Lewis at under-21 level in recent weeks and has aspirations of playing together for the Magpies' first-team.
Newcastle's second-string host their Leeds counterparts at Whitley Park on Monday afternoon (kick-off 7pm GMT) aiming to return to winning ways in the Premier League 2 following four consecutive Division Two defeats.
United's youngsters have had a fortnight to prepare for the upcoming league encounter which Miley, who signed his first professional contract with his boyhood club last summer, believes has been beneficial for the squad under Ben Dawson, who was recently appointed as the club's Under 21 Lead Player Development Coach on a permanent basis last month.
The 19-year-old central midfielder told nufc.co.uk: "Since Ben's came in, we've changed the way we've played. The lads have really bought into it and stuck at it in training, which we can see coming together in matches.
"It has been an important time having that little break in between our last game. We've had a lot of time to practice in training and work on the little details. People are not having to be told a few times now, with everybody knowing their roles and what to do.
"We need to give ourselves a chance in getting into the play-offs. We're focussing on one game at a time but it's important that we make sure we get a good result against Leeds.
"We've got the quality in the team to do it and it has been there in matches but it's about those little details in defending our goal better whilst making sure we take our chances in front of goal because you don't get many at this level."
Miley, who joined United's Academy at the age of 11, has started alongside younger brother Lewis for Newcastle's under-21 side whilst the midfield duo have also participated together in first-team training, with Lewis named on the bench for United's Premier League trip to AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.
Whilst the main aim is for the Stanley-born teenager to progress into United's senior squad, he hopes to follow in the footsteps of the Longstaff and Ameobi brothers in siblings to play for the Magpies.
Miley added: "It's been really special. It's not normal to be playing alongside your brother, especially at under-21 level and getting this far together.
"We've been training with the first-team recently, too, and you just think 'wow'! It's something not just special for myself and Lewis but also for our families because they've support Newcastle! For their sons and grandsons to be training with them, we feel their pride for us both as they message us after training.
"The dream is to play for the first-team but if me and Lewis can do it alongside each other, that would be even more special."
